On the following pages we will share information about our library system. We offer a wide variety of resources including printed material, newspapers and periodicals, electronic readers (Nooks at the HS and Kindles at the MS level), as well as cameras and video equipment. The High School's main copy machine is also located in the library.
When thinking of our area's rich cultural heritage, the library staff wanted to make available to the public our school yearbooks and school newspapers. Gary found a company that digitalized all of the yearbooks, both Golden Lode and Bear Logs, that were stored in our vaults. To view these historic treasures you simply sign on to Skalooza.com and create a user name and password. Gary and Kenette are currently in the process of digitalizing our school newspapers as well. To our knowledge, the Nugget is the oldest, continuously published school newspaper in the South Dakota. Thanks to the foresight and generosity of Ms. Helen Morganti, LHS graduate and faculty alumni, there is a collection preserved in bound copies that we are in the process of photographing and editing. This link is available through the LDHS home page listed under Menu, Our District, District History then Archived Documents. Nugget newspapers can then be viewed in pdf form.
We have linked several excellent sites that will help patrons access multiple databases. At the top of this page, locate the more...... tab and choose Helpful Links in the drop down menu. Included in these are: theAR BookFinder, World Book Discover, World Book Advanced, the Gale Virtual Reference Library, SIRS, ProQuest, PaperRater, Medline Plus, YARP, and SDLN, the South Dakota Library Network site. Links to the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Library in Lead and the Deadwood Public Library are also located there. A new link we have just found provides lists of series information in a user friendly form. Listed by Author, Genre and Series Titles, the patron may now have easy access to series such as Artemis Fowl, Dead is, Inkheart, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the Orphan Train Series as well as search results for favorite authors.
